Title: Romeo and Juliet Embracing
Here we have a beautiful very large 20th Century English School, oil on canvas. This artwork is based on the “Romeo and Juliet I" a painting by Sir Thomas Francis Dicksee (1819–1895), an English Victorian painter and illustrator known for his depictions of Shakespearean and historical scenes. This particular work is part of a series of paintings by Dicksee that illustrate moments from William Shakespeare's tragic play "Romeo and Juliet." As with many of his paintings, Dicksee's "Romeo and Juliet I" captures the emotional intensity and dramatic flair characteristic of the late Romantic period, with a focus on the romantic and tragic aspects of the play's narrative.
The painting portrays the iconic balcony scene from Act II, Scene II of the play, where Romeo clandestinely visits Juliet at her home and they declare their love for each other. This scene is one of the most celebrated and widely recognised moments in all of Shakespeare's works, who worked in the style of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. This dramatic and elegant work is sure to spark conversation among your family and guests. A fabulous painting which would grace any wall in your home.
